Social Services AWHI Healthy Homes AWHI Healthy Homes Initiative is a free service aimed at supporting whaanau living in the Counties Manukau area. We work collaboratively with whaanau to ensure their homes support their health and wellbeing. The initiative provides education and planning around issues such as overcrowding, ventilation, and mould. Additionally, we offer interventions through our suppliers, tailored to the specific housing type. Who Is Eligible? This service is available exclusively within the Counties Manukau area and includes education, resource provision, and customised solutions based on individual housing needs. It also supports families in need of home improvements to enhance their health and wellbeing. Established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this service addresses the growing need for assistance in accessing food and essential services, particularly in the Turuki geographical region (South and Central Auckland). Who Is Eligible? This service is available to whaanau experiencing challenges in accessing food and other essential resources. How to Enquire If you need assistance or support, please contact the Community Response service hub at 0800 493 552. CONTACT US Permanent Caregiver Support Service (PCSS) The Permanent Caregiver Support Service (PCSS) provides assistance to caregivers who offer permanent homes to children and young people unable to live with their parents. Coordinated by Turuki Health Care, the service offers financial and other support in line with the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, with qualified social workers available from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Who Is Eligible? Eligible individuals include permanent caregivers who are either special guardians under S113(A) of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, have orders under the Care of Children Act 2004, or provide permanent arrangements for tamariki previously in the custody of Oranga Tamariki. Caregivers can request assistance until the child in their care turns eighteen. Whaanau Services B4Baby Breastfeeding Support B4Baby is a kaupapa Maaori breastfeeding service that provides education and support to mothers in South Auckland. With over 20 years of experience, our culturally sensitive team includes breastfeeding advocates and a lactation consultant who assist mothers in navigating their breastfeeding journey. We offer in-home visits until your baby is six months old, expert advice on common breastfeeding challenges, and antenatal education sessions. Who Is Eligible? Our services are available to all mothers, including non-Maaori whaanau. We support mothers during pregnancy and after childbirth, welcoming anyone seeking guidance on breastfeeding. ENQUIRE NOW Family Start Family Start Maangere is a voluntary, home visiting service designed to support whaanau facing challenges in the areas of health, relationships, education, family circumstances, environment, and safety. We support whaanau to set and meet their goals, access community services, and enhance their wellbeing in key areas such as housing, budgeting, parenting, and relationships. The programme encourages early childhood education, immunisations, and Well Child checks while providing the Takai Parenting Resource to support child development and positive parent-child interactions. Who Is Eligible? Whaanau may be eligible for Family Start if they: • Live in Maangere • Have a pregnant mother in the whaanau • Have a child under the age of two years in the whaanau. ENQUIRE NOW Hapuu Waananga Hapuu Waananga offers culturally informed antenatal education through one-day waananga held every Friday at Manu Tukutuku Community Centre and every Saturday at Turuki Health Care in Manukau throughout 2024. This program focuses on natural, whaanau-centered birthing, empowering women and their families with knowledge and support for labour, birth, and early parenting. Our experienced Maaori midwives facilitate these sessions, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Who Is Eligible? To participate, you must be pregnant (26 weeks or more), live in Counties Manukau, and be a New Zealand resident or citizen. BOOK YOUR CLASS NOW Poipoia te Mokopuna Poipoia te Mokopuna is a whaanau-focused education programme that aims to support parents & caregivers to nurture tamariki and their learning in the first three years of life. Turuki Health Care offers Poipoia te Mokopuna support to around 45 whaanau every year. We help whaanau build understanding, confidence and resilience, through recognising the significant role they play in their child’s life. Through play, gathering together, sharing kai and koorero, this service creates spaces and opportunities for whaanau to recognise how they can nurture learning and relationships both within their household, and their hapori/wider community. Who Is Eligible? Eligibility criteria include identifying as Maaori and living between Otaahuhu and Papakura, having tamariki aged 0-3 years not enrolled in early childhood education (ECE), or being a hapuu maamaa with Maaori whakapapa interested in your child's growth. Targeted at whaanau with children aged 0 to 12 years, Triple P provides strategies for managing children's behaviour in a constructive and supportive way, promoting positive communication and healthy development. Who Is Eligible? This programme is available to all parents and caregivers of children aged 0 to 12 years residing in the Counties Manukau area. It’s designed for any whaanau member looking to enhance their parenting skills and support their children’s growth. ENQUIRE NOW Start Well Start Well, provided through Turuki Health Care, is a relationship-based service designed for young mothers and their whaanau, beginning in pregnancy and continuing until their youngest child is five years old. Established in 2017 and now located at Waddon Place, Maangere, we focus on a whole-of-whaanau approach, utilising specialist paediatric nurses and senior social workers to support families in achieving their health and social goals. Who Is Eligible? Start Well is available to hapuu maamaa aged 25 years or younger living in South Auckland. Referrals can be made by anyone, but the referrer must have the consent of the hapuu maamaa. Whaanau may also self-refer. ENQUIRE NOW Tupuranga Ake Tupuranga Ake is a free program designed to support whaanau in exploring and accessing Early Childhood Education (ECE) for tamariki aged 3 to 5 years who are not currently enrolled. Our dedicated navigators assist families in identifying and overcoming barriers to ECE, creating early learning plans, and providing tailored activities and resources for home learning. Who Is Eligible? To be eligible, tamariki must be aged between 3 and 5 years, not currently enrolled in ECE or primary school, and must reside in Maangere, Manurewa, Papatoetoe, Otara, or Otaahuhu.
